1920s Persian Sarouk Mohajeran Carpet
This is not your ordinary interwar Saruk carpet. The polychrome tile pattern has been artistically adapted from contemporary Bakhtiari weavings, but disciplined and formalised . Of particular interest are the weeping willow panels. Yellow is skillfully used here and this is not a hue generally associated with Sarouk rug from western Persia. The royal blue border of larger and smaller palmettes is very much in the Sarouk style in this 1920’s carpet in excellent condition.
