19th Century Turkish Angora Oushak Carpet
The Turkey red ground works splendidly with the light blue of the palmettes, angular lancet leaves and snippets of floral vines. There is a central organizing axis and two more expicit lateral poles. The wide ivory main border displays two species of cypresses and intervening hyacinth sprays. The bright orange helps to date the rug to the later 19th century. This is an attractive west Anatolian essay at a general Persian style carpet.
