Kurdish #22860
A field pattern of colorful diamonds, each enclosing a cross with hooks motif, almost totally covers the corroded black ground of this c. 1860 Suj Bulak carpet from Kurdistan in northwest Persia. The red border of rosettes, with emphatic red and ivory running dog reciprocal minors, makes the Suj Bulak attribution secure. Suj Bulaks are among the most desirable of Kurdish village weaving.
