Kirshehir #21207
Kirshehir prayer rugs from central Anatolia are the most wildly colorful of all the types of classic Turkish (prayer) rugs. In this brilliant full pile example from c. 1860, the light blue is vibrant, the yellow is bright and the tomato red inner mihrab is warm and clear. The cloud band panel at the top of the field is delineated in orange-red and black. Carnations edge the inner edge of the mihrab and bunches of three double flowers repeat in the main border. The striped inner minor borders are a Kirshehir characteristic.
