1940s Persian Pictorial Kashan Mashahir Carpet
Besides the majority production of medallion carpets, Kashan also indulges in pictorial fantasies, as in this c. 1940 depiction of a royal court scene with an enthroned king under an arabesque filled ogee arch and a surrounding gaggle of courtiers and flunkies. The weave is very fine and the condition is excellent as befits a rug designed as a wall hanging. The top border inscription indicates a Kashan origin. Images of Persian kings fill the border medallions.
