Early 19th Century Joshaqn Carpet

We have, for convenience’s sake, grouped other, comparable Southwest Persian weaving with the Ghashgaie. This early piece, c. 1800, represents high quality tribal work does in the urban style. The perfectly balanced herati pattern on a deep blue ground is framed by a red quatrefoil rosette and thin leaf pattern. The pile is low, the weave is very fine on this important survivor from as virtually unknown period of Persian rug weaving.
