Early 20th Century Irish Donegal Arts & Crafts Carpet
The Irish Guiness green field shows a widely spaced one way small red flower allover pattern. Although many Donegals show distinctly Celtic or Oushak designs, this example is more in the French Savonnerie manner. The unusual main border is quasi-three-dimensional, with a ribbon guillotine around a red and green rose and leaf continuous bouquet. The pile is lush and deep, with symmetric (Turkish) knots on an all-wool foundation.
